Cambodia and Australia Convene for Fourth Round of Senior Officials’ Talks in Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh, April 8, 2024: Cambodia and Australia engaged in their Fourth Senior Officials’ Talks (SOTs) in Phnom Penh on April 4, aiming to bolster cooperation across a broad spectrum of areas. The discussions, co-chaired by Prak Nguon Hong, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, and Michelle Chan, Deputy Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Australia, brought together representatives from both nations to assess and advance their partnership.

Participants, including officials from relevant ministries, institutions, and the Australian Embassy in Cambodia, delved into a comprehensive review of bilateral cooperation in agriculture, trade, investment, tourism, culture, education, people-to-people exchanges, security, defence, and development cooperation.

The Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation noted that the 4th SOTs underscored the depth of the Cambodia-Australia relationship, which has yielded fruitful outcomes since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1952. Both countries reiterated their commitment to further enhance their cooperation for mutual benefit.

Moreover, the talks provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange perspectives on regional and international issues of mutual interest. It was mutually agreed that the 5th Senior Officials’ Talks will be hosted by Australia in 2025, continuing the tradition of constructive dialogue and collaboration.
